Brihatta Home Art Project 2020

Duration: June 2020-June 2021
Exhibition: March 13- June 20, 2021

Brihatta Home Art project was a response to the COVID-19 pandemic on how the artists can work from their home and create something meaningful. The pandemic brought a halt to the lives of people when it first occurred, and there was uncertainty related to where the future would take. The impact of lockdowns and unsure futures affected people both mentally and physically, and in response to that, the initiative was taken to support some artists through different activities.

Brihatta Art Foundation provided a grant along with virtual mentorship to inspire the young generation artists in Bangladesh. The idea was to encourage artists to produce art from their respected residences, doing works with the things they have. Considering the limitations and restrictions due to the pandemic, there were challenges procuring the materials, thus the target was to reflect the situation, the struggles, and the challenges through the works, but at the same time illuminating the ray of hope through the works. The selected artists from all around Bangladesh worked with the things they had, sometimes creating different elements through different materials, experimenting on different forms, and creating new narratives through their exploration on multidimensional mediums. The project worked to collaborate and interact with professionals and sector experts which enabled the selected participants to continue their learnings and practices despite all odds, and do something meaningful while they were staying locked at their homes.
